2023 Maple Festival Raffle
We are excited to announce that this year’s Maple Festival Raffle includes over 30 items, each valued at $100 or more! Look at the amazing items on this page that have been donated by historical society members and friends, local businesses and artists, and regional stores. Raffle tickets are $25 each or 5 tickets for $100. Simply download and print raffle tickets and send them in for your chance to win!
BE SURE TO WRITE ON EACH TICKET THE ITEM NUMBER YOU WANT and mail your tickets with check (payable to Middletown Springs Historical Society) to Middletown Springs Historical Society, P.O. Box 1121, Middletown Springs, VT 05757.
RAFFLE TICKETS AND PAYMENT MUST BE POSTMARKED BY MARCH 15, 2023. We will draw the lucky tickets for each item during the Maple Festival on March 19 and notify winners to arrange for pickup or shipping. Winners will be responsible for shipping costs.

16th Century Vellum Religious Music Manuscript, Archivally Framed
Value: $350 / Donated by Anne Pratt Slatin
This antique music manuscript, European in origin and possibly a verse of a Gregorian chant, is hand-inscribed in Latin. There is another chant on the reverse (not visible), but the more interesting side is the one you see. Manuscript 14 ¼” w x 19 ¾” h; Frame 21 x 26 ½.

Set of four Limited Edition Tomahawk Trails Collector’s Items

These finely crafted ceramic Tomahawks are like new as they have never been displayed. They include Guardians of the Pack (#6 in the series), Running Spirits (#2), Songs of the Pack (#3), which also has the Certificate of Authenticity, and Guardians of the Forest (#8). The collection by artist Al Agnew is numbered. They are hand cast and painted in the standard of the Bradford Exchange. Approximately 12” in length.

Set of four Limited Edition Framed Plates

Four beautifully designed collector’s plates by Dave Henderson in the Escape to the Country series. Plates are Country Line Farmer’s Market (#1 in the series), Country Welcome (#2), Friendly Visitors (#7) and Country Comforts ($4). They are painted on porcelain with gold leaf trim, approximately 8 1/8” in diameter. All have a certificate of authenticity and a beautiful natural hardwood frame by Van Hygan & Smyth, with 4 steel spring clips and a hanging ring. These are preowned but essentially new as they have not been displayed. Each is numbered and meets the standards of Bradford Exchange.

Dr. Kathy Doyle and Dr. Jim Graves will come to your property in the early morning and identify bird songs, plants: grasses, shrubs, and trees; or they will gladly cater to whatever interests the winner of this service. They will answer your questions and prepare an inventory of the birds and plants they identified. Both are retired professors. Kathy was at Middlebury College teaching in the environmental science lab and Jim taught botany and environmental studies at Green Mountain College.

Fiber artist Nora Rubinstein will introduce you to some of the history of spinning and teach you present-day skills to customize your own yarn for color, warmth and softness. Student(s) will have the opportunity to examine exotic fibers from angora to qiviut and to test out spinning on a drop spindle, an antique walking wheel, an antique Saxony type wheel and a modern spinning wheel. If you would rather learn to knit, she can help get you started with the basics of making a scarf or a cowl to warm you on cold Vermont nights.
Nora will provide materials needed for the class and can guide you to buying your own spindles, wheels, needles and yarn should you want to do so. Two two-hour lessons are offered with time between to practice.
